The Climate Risk Research Foundation is a registered nonprofit public benefit corporation with 501(c)(3) status. We collaborate to conduct ground breaking research focused on helping policy and decsion makers identify the potential impact and magnitude of climate related risks on assets, companies, communities, countries, economies and societies. We provide insights that can be used to set policies and to develop long-term mitigation strategies to mitigate the affects of climate change.

CRRF Awards $10,000 USD to Nigerian Climate Risk Research Challenge Winning University Teams

June 12, 2024 – Nigeria – CRRF is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Sustainable Africa Initiative – Climate Risk Research Challenge – Nigeria 2023. This groundbreaking project, which commenced a year ago, in ten Nigerian Universities with support from our local partners, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation included more than 240 participants from ten Nigerian Universities. The Climate Risk Research CHALLENGE aimed to address and mitigate the impacts of climate change in Nigeria through innovative research and practical solutions.

Our Core Team works to facilitate collaboration, to develop strategies and project plans, to build shared work environments with open-source tools, data and resources needed for experts to effectively work together to analyze, develop and deploy robust climate solutions. In addition to our Core Team we benefit from Volunteer Collaborators from leading organizations and institutions from around the world. These experts participate in supporting our research and development efforts.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation

In 2015, M.r Tony O. Elumelu (CON) and his family made a$100 million commitment to launch The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program designed to empower 10,000 African entrepreneurs over 10 years through training,

mentorship, funding, and access to market linkages. The Program goal was to stimulate sustainable economic growth through these African entrepreneurs, who in turn will create at least 1million jobs and generate over $10 billion in revenue

Seven years later The Foundation has developed a digital ecosystem of over one and a half million African entrepreneurs and partnerships with organizations like the UNDP, African Development Bank, ICRC, and UBA which has enabled TEF to achieve 150% of its original goal and continues to expand its impact on African society.

To date, TEF has trained, mentored, and funded over 18,000 young African entrepreneurs and provided support to over a 15. million Africans via TEFConnect. The Foundation’s $150 million USD program provided financial support, seasoned mentorship and 12-week business management training for over 4,900 entrepreneurs from 54 African nations in 2022.

Collaboration

The collaboration between The Tony Elumelu Foundation and the Climate Risk Research Foundation (CRRF) is a result of Mr. Tony Elumelu’s emergence as one of the leading voices in the world on Climate Finance and Tony’s long-term friendship with Harvard Business School roommate and CRRF Chairman Mr. Brendan T. Reilly.


Currently, The Sustainable Africa Initiative is supported by a volunteer staff of 5 executive team members, a team of 7 Senior Research Engineers, 3 Software Developers, 2 University Outreach Leads, an OS-Climate technical support community of volunteers, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s Partnership, Training, Outreach and TEFConnect support staff.
