In 2015, M.r Tony O. Elumelu (CON) and his family made a$100 million commitment to launch The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program designed to empower 10,000 African entrepreneurs over 10 years through training,
mentorship, funding, and access to market linkages. The Program goal was to stimulate sustainable economic growth through these African entrepreneurs, who in turn will create at least 1million jobs and generate over $10 billion in revenue
Seven years later The Foundation has developed a digital ecosystem of over one and a half million African entrepreneurs and partnerships with organizations like the UNDP, African Development Bank, ICRC, and UBA which has enabled TEF to achieve 150% of its original goal and continues to expand its impact on African society.
To date, TEF has trained, mentored, and funded over 18,000 young African entrepreneurs and provided support to over a 15. million Africans via TEFConnect. The Foundation’s $150 million USD program provided financial support, seasoned mentorship and 12-week business management training for over 4,900 entrepreneurs from 54 African nations in 2022.
The collaboration between The Tony Elumelu Foundation and the Climate Risk Research Foundation (CRRF) is a result of Mr. Tony Elumelu’s emergence as one of the leading voices in the world on Climate Finance and Tony’s long-term friendship with Harvard Business School roommate and CRRF Chairman Mr. Brendan T. Reilly.
Currently, The Sustainable Africa Initiative is supported by a volunteer staff of 5 executive team members, a team of 7 Senior Research Engineers, 3 Software Developers, 2 University Outreach Leads, an OS-Climate technical support community of volunteers, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s Partnership, Training, Outreach and TEFConnect support staff.
